Summer Solstice
Today is the Summer Solstice.
"Solstice" means: "either of the times when the Sun is farthest from the equator, on or about June 21 or December 21. The summer solstice falls in June in the northern hemisphere but in December in the southern hemisphere, and vice versa for the winter solstice."
The derivation comes from Latin solstitium, from sol "sun" + -stit-, -stes "standing"; akin to Latin stare "to stand".
So today is the longest day of the year.
The really great thing about all of this is that now the days will start getting shorter again, meaning that my cat will quit waking me up at 5:30 every morning. The guy loves to hunt and play, and being the friendly guy that he is, he likes to include me in his games.

1 Comments:
I'm a sun worshipper, so June 21st is always my favorite day of the year (so long as it's sunny that day!).
Love your kitty! :-)
